Penny Pinching

I am not typically a penny pincher but I'm also not a big spender. My shopping philosophy is I'll buy it if I need it and I'll pay more if it's worth it. For example, my facial care items are a must have. I have very sensitive skin and I have to use certain products in order to keep my skin healthy. Food is another area where I would usually splurge. I cook with mostly fresh ingredients so that I know what is in our food and so that we are eating healthy. I am really trying to make sure that Dirk and I are watching what we are spending but at the same time I'm not willing to sacrifice our healthy eating habits to save money. I am very excited that we now live very close to Trader Joe's because they have amazing produce that is fairly inexpensive. The thing I am most excited about right now is the grocery game. While listening to KSGN the other day a lady was talking about She said that she has cut her grocery bill in half! Of course I had to visit the site and see what it's all about. I realized, after telling Dirk about it, that he had helped Alex design this lady's other website ( Anyway, this "grocery game" seems quite complex but easy to understand and much less time consuming than doing all of the work myself. I'm not going to go into detail because there's too much to explain, but I did pay the $1 trial fee to try it out for 4 weeks. I'll definitely keep you updated as to how much it all ends up saving me. I'm hoping it's tons and tons!

  1. You go girl! Pinch those pennies! Make me proud.

  2. I do the grocery game and have been for about 8 months now. It's definitely overwhelming at first but I feel like I've gotten a good handle on how it works and try to only clip/buy what we really need. I've loved having things stocked up. And with your beautiful new kitchen, you should have plenty of room to store things! I'm so jealous of you living so close to Trader Joe's. We don't have it here. :(

  3. I have been wanting to try that as well. Can't wait to hear what you think!
