The Stress of Parenting

Seriously, parenting is stressful. It's not the long sleepless nights or the bouts of crying that really stress me out, it's the choices that are set before me. As I've mentioned before just getting Makenzie fed has been so stressful. Breastfeeding was a nightmare, then it was pumping every two to three hours and then dealing with growth spurts and manually increasing my milk supply, now it's when to start solids and what foods to introduce and why and how. That's just feeding. Nevermind trying to clean your house with natural ingredients, deciding if you should take baby in to the doctor or if she's just teething, or getting her on a more effective sleep schedule. Oy vey!

I'm sure most of you have heard about California's plan to ban BPA from all products intended for kids ages 0-3 years. And then I just recently read an article about the dangers of food dyes and their effects on not only kids but also adults. Seriously, after having Makenzie I feel like we live in a toxic world and it is virtually impossible to trust anyone or anything. It's so expensive and difficult to go all natural. I mean, I love natural foods, but sometimes you just need a bag of chips and a soda.

I know that I can only do my best and do what I can but seriously, where do you start and where do you stop?

  1. You just pick and choose what is important to you :) And even just changing one thing lessons the exposure to harmful substances. Your right you can not put your babies in a bubble, but you can make small changes to help minimize risks.

  2. haha! Oy Vey is right Alicia! Geesh, I bet parenting can be stressful girly! And all the things you have to consider with junk food and food dyes and yadda yadda. My dad gave us Sunny D for years! WHo knows what that did to me!! haha. The only thing I can think of is to live on a farm and make everything yourself. I thought of that once but quickly realized that churning butter would only be fun the first few times I did it. Love you and praying the Lord guides you and Dirka! You guys are really great parents honestly!
