Bible Verses for Young Hearts
There are many ways that I am trying to implement this but one of them is by using verses for discipline. Anyone who has had a two-year-old knows that disciplining them is a struggle. It is difficult to get them to calm down when they are throwing a fit and there is no telling when a tantrum will hit. There are many ways to deal with tantrums, I am learning that each situation warrants a unique response, but I know that I cannot soften Makenzie's heart. I can teach her, I can correct her, I can show her the way she should go, but only God can soften her heart. So after her tantrums are over and we've dealt with it however we need to, I read or recite a verse to Makenzie that applies to her current situation. It's not always exactly verbatim, but I explain to her what God thinks and then tell her, "The Bible says..." Lately, it's been a lot of Philippians 2:14 "Do everything without complaining or arguing so that you may become blameless and pure children of God." and Ephesians 6:1 "Children, obey your parents as believers in the Lord." Does she get it? I don't know but I know that the Bible says that God's Word does not return void. (Is. 55:11)
To help me continue in this, I came up with a list of issues that we deal with or will deal with soon and verses to go with them. This is by no means an exhaustive list, it's just something that I've compiled over the past month that I'd love to share with you. Some of the verses are too long or wordy for toddlers but some can be shortened for their little minds. You will notice that I used mostly the NIRV which reads at about a third grade level. I hope that you can glean something from the printable and that the Word of God will be instilled in your child as well.
