Road Trip 2012

So, we've been gone on a road trip, a REALLY long road trip, 18 days to be exact. We saw a lot of beautiful things and spent some great quality time with friends and family but I am SO happy to be home.

We started off by heading up to San Simeon. We stopped off in Santa Barbara and ate at one of our favorite restaurants, Los Agaves, oh man, so yummy! The next day we were headed to San Francisco. Along the way we saw thousands of elephant seals who migrate from Alaska to the coast of San Simeon every year. SO crazy!!!
We also found out, the hard way, that Makenzie gets car sick. She threw up in the car on our way up the 101, which made for a very stinky car ride and a stop on the side of the road, in the middle of nowhere.
When we arrived at the hotel in San Francisco, my hubby was already late to meet up with some friends so he dropped us off and Makenzie and I ordered a pizza from room service and ate pizza and watched a movie. She loved drinking her water from a stemmed wine glass.

San Francisco was a blast. Dirk and I have already done a lot of the "touristy" things together so we just decided to take it easy and enjoy the San Francisco culture.

We hung out at Crissy Park.

Went to the Bay Area Discovery Museum which is an absolute MUST if you have young kids. It was the highlight of our San Fran trip. More to come on that!
Ate chili in a bread bowls at Boudin's.
And hung out at some great parks.

After San Francisco we headed to Dirk's mom and step-dad's house in Oregon for a few days. It was so much fun to see Makenzie running around in the open space and interacting with nature, something we definitely lack in our every day life.
After a few days we moved on to Sunriver, Oregon where we met up with some dear friends of ours. It was the best week of the trip. It is so rare to get along so well with another couple and their children. Being around them encourages me in every aspect and I wish that we could spend more time with them throughout the year. It was also so fun to see Makenzie and their little guy play together and bond, oh to see that bond separate bummed me out. I left Sunriver feeling rejuvenated, encouraged and also bummed that so many miles separate us.

On our way to Sacramento to visit Dirk's aunt and uncle we stopped at Crater Lake which was absolutely gorgeous!
When we arrived in Sacramento we were greeted by Dirk's aunt and uncle and cousins. Over the next few days Makenzie got to play with her twin cousins that she had never met. It was SO much fun to see them together and again I wished that there weren't so many miles separating us.
I'll be sharing a few road trip tips that we found helpful in the next few days as well as some activities inspired by our visit to the Bay Area Discovery Museum. I'm glad to be back and excited for the things I have planned for the next few weeks.
