Fun Weekend

This weekend Dirk and I went on a staycation. Do you "go" on a staycation? I don't know, all I know is that Makenzie spent all day Friday and Saturday with my parents and Dirk and I went off exploring So Cal.

We spent some time in San Diego "exploring" some tidepools,

checking out the lighthouse at the Cabrillo National Monument

and learning about Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo. We also ate at Pizza Port, which was delicious.

Later we took a stroll along the beach at Torrey Pines State Reserve, which was absolutely gorgeous!

On Saturday Dirk had a day of surprises planned out. We first stopped at The Pie Hole in Los Angeles where I got affogato, which was good, and Dirk ordered a chocolate, caramel crostata which was to die for. Oh man... I didn't take any pics...argh! But if you live anywhere near Los Angeles and by near I mean like within four hours of...you def have to try this place!

After that we headed to The Dolby Theater (formerly the Kodak Theater) where we saw Cirque du Soleil's Iris. Where they wouldn't let us take any pics but we asked some lady to take a pic of us outside the theater...
The show was seriously the best we've seen. It was not only entertaining but was also intriguing. I highly suggest you see it.

After "the show" we headed to dinner at Mohawk Bend. Another killer meal. The food is SO fresh and the Mohawk Burger was to die for. Fresh ground beef, thick slices of parm, spicy arugula, pickled chillis, roasted peppers and a rosemary-garlic aioli. It was SO delicious! I think their menu changes often but it kinda sounds like this burger sticks around for awhile. Also, their coleslaw was delicious. I'm not a big fan of coleslaw but it was so good; crisp cabbage and a dijon dressing. I gobbled up all of mine and some of Dirk's SO good. We also tried their housemade cola. Dirk didn't like it but I thought it was a fun change, it has a strong clove taste which I enjoy and apparently Dirk doesn't, heh.

We had a great time, hanging out, just the two of us. I was ready BEFORE the time that Dirk said he wanted to leave on Saturday and I got to take my time rolling out of bed...after 10 AM!!!! But with all that said I missed my girl tons. It was way too quiet and I missed her sweet conversation, although I'm not sure she noticed that we were gone with all of the fun she was having with Grammy and Poppy.

  1. Sounds like a lot of fun! When I gave birth last month, it was our first time being away from Ryan overnight. As much as he frustrates me at times, and as much as I have wished for a little "break" from him, I ended up missing him SO SO much!
